Conference Theme: "Marketing in the Age of Plenty?"
Human society has repeatedly entered new ‘ages of plenty’ from agriculture through industrialisation to the knowledge economy. Each wave of abundance has reshaped markets while revealing new scarcities and unintended consequences. Now, advances in AI and robotics point toward a new wave: an apparent abundance not just of information but of intelligence, capable of generating products, services, creative assets, and personalised experiences at unprecedented scale and minimal cost.
What would an age of AI-driven plenty mean for marketing? Would the discipline face redundancy as strategic, analytical, and creative work becomes automated – the rise of Artificial Marketing Intelligence? Would it gain renewed relevance, helping organisations to orchestrate and contextualise AI-driven outputs for different groups of consumers? Or does abundance create a deeper responsibility to ensure that prosperity remains shared, trustworthy, and sustainable?
Our theme Marketing in the Age of Plenty? asks what happens when technology creates an appearance of abundance, and what that means for a discipline built on understanding how markets function, how businesses compete, and how people choose. We invite contributions that bring strong theory, critical evidence, and intellectual curiosity to bear on these questions, and look forward to vigorous debate.
